Marvel Studios has scrapped the upcoming debut of the villain Onslaught from Season 2 of X-Men ’97, according to former showrunner Beau DeMayo.

DeMayo, who was fired in March under controversial circumstances, recently revealed this change on social media.

Marvel Cancels Onslaught & Age of Apocalypse Storyline

Beau DeMayo, who had an important role in shaping X-Men ’97, shared that Marvel Animation decided to cut Onslaught from the season finale.

The villain, a powerful fusion of Professor Xavier and Magneto, was initially set to appear in an Age of Apocalypse-inspired arc, but this has now been removed from the upcoming second season.

DeMayo expressed frustration, claiming the decision reduced Season 2 from 10 episodes to just nine.

DeMayo criticized Marvel, stating, “They’re shooting themselves in the foot by cutting this storyline.”

He also hinted at creative differences between the show’s production team and Marvel executives, accusing them of pushing a “we know better than the comics” agenda.

The Original Onslaught Storyline

For those unfamiliar, Onslaught was born from a dark moment in X-Men history when Magneto’s violent actions led Charles Xavier to mentally attack him.

This caused Magneto’s darker side to merge with Xavier’s mind, creating Onslaught, a powerful villain that almost all of Marvel’s heroes had to fight to defeat.

According to DeMayo’s initial plans, X-Men ’97 Season 2 would have adapted some elements from the Age of Apocalypse storyline, an alternate timeline in which important events in the Marvel universe started differently, alongside Onslaught’s emergence.

However, it remains unclear how much of the original plot has been altered following these decisions.

Beau DeMayo’s Ongoing Revelations

Beau DeMayo’s departure from X-Men ’97 came under a cloud of controversy following allegations of sexual misconduct.

Since his firing, DeMayo has openly discussed his dissatisfaction with Marvel and continues to leak confidential information.

Some speculate that his recent outbursts are an attempt to retaliate against the company or force a response from Disney, though this remains speculative.

Fans will now have to wait until at least 2026 to see how the revised X-Men ’97 Season 2 unfolds without the Onslaught storyline. Marvel Studios has yet to comment on the leaks.
