The PlayStation Network (PSN) is experiencing a global outage, leaving gamers unable to access online games or even the PlayStation website.
Starting at approximately 8:41 PM ET on September 30, 2024, the outage has affected various services, including account management, gaming, social features, and the PlayStation Store.
When trying to connect, users encounter errors like “The connection to the server timed out” and “An error has occurred.” Sony’s official PlayStation Network status page confirms the outage and notes that they are working to restore services as quickly as possible.
Although PlayStation Direct issues have been resolved, other services like gaming and account management remain down, with Sony’s servers still returning “HTTP 500 Internal Server Error” messages—a sign of overloaded servers.
@AskPlayStation PSN is down at the moment. I can’t even access my screenshots from the PS App, trying to share anything is slow, and I of course cannot play any games online. pic.twitter.com/ZyqVeh510l

Many gamers took to social media to express frustration, with one user stating, “Not being able to access your games AT ALL while the PSN is down really just drives home how much the whole ‘you don’t truly own anything’ era sucks.”
Another user posted, “I literally JUST bought a PS5 and PlayStation servers are down.”
Earlier in the day, Sony fixed a bug causing incorrect promotional ads to display in place of custom game art. However, there is no indication that this issue is related to the current outage.
Ongoing Problems and Community Reactions
According to Down Detector, the majority of reports (88%) point to server connectivity issues, with 8% facing problems with downloads, and 4% struggling to load the PlayStation website.
The outage is affecting all major PlayStation platforms, including PS3, PS4, PS5, PS Vita, and even web-based services. Users are finding it hard to sign in or create new accounts.
