Daredevil Takes a Bullet? Episode 8 Explained

Alright, you won't believe it if I tell you that Episode 8 of Daredevil: Born Again is a rollercoaster, and I’m finally writing this to explain...

Alright, let me explain the ending of one of the most confusing movies, Call of the Void, to you in a way that makes sense and won’t make your brain hurt.

This movie is weird, spooky, and kind of deep, but I’ll keep it simple, with a little sprinkle of humor so you’re not bored halfway through.

So, the story follows Moray, a young woman who’s going through a pretty rough time. Her brother passed away, she lost her job, and she’s basically like, “Yep, I need a break from people.”

So, she heads off to a quiet cabin in the woods to clear her head and hopefully not lose her mind in the process. Her parents are worried, but she’s like, “Don’t worry, I’ve got this.”

Spoiler alert: She does not get this.

Not long after settling in, Moray meets some neighbors. There’s a group of young people in a band: Lucy, Sterling, Cole, and Darryl (who’s not in the band but hangs out with them because he’s into sound stuff).

Why Call of the Void Is More Than Just a Scary Movie

They all seem cool at first. There’s also a weird professor named Blackwood with a dog named Parkins, who gives off “lonely scientist who knows too much” energy. Soon enough, Blackwood disappears, and that’s when things start to get…off.

Moray notices strange things. Mushrooms are growing in odd places. The water tastes funny. People act weirder every day. And there’s this music that kind of feels like it’s doing something to people’s brains. Like, “What is this hypnotic Spotify playlist, and why can’t I stop humming it?”

Turns out, the professor may have found some alien stuff in the forest—maybe from a black hole or space fungus or whatever. Instead of reporting it to, I don’t know, literally anyone, he starts experimenting with it.

He ends up getting himself turned into some kind of puppet for the alien thing. This alien doesn’t shoot lasers or blow things up. No, it’s much sneakier.

It gets inside your head, mostly through music, mushrooms, and some sketchy water that’s not from a Brita filter.

The professor gives some of this mystery drink to Sterling, who then starts changing and brings the rest of the band with him.

Slowly but surely, they all become what we’ll call “Void People” humans who’ve been taken over by the alien thing and are now basically running on group-think.

No emotions. No stress. No drama. Just creepy smiles and humming the same tune like a haunted choir.

Darryl tries to fight it. He plays his guitar and screams to block out the alien song, which is kind of smart and also kind of hilarious. Imagine your friend trying not to get possessed by singing over the top of a spooky melody. Sadly, even he eventually gives in.

Moray does her best to escape. She finds the professor’s secret lab and figures out what’s going on. But the group tricks her, and Darryl, now fully Void-ed gets her to drink the alien water too. And boom. She’s one of them.

In the end, the whole group, including Void-Moray, walks out of the forest, singing their creepy little song, ready to go into town and start spreading the Void to more people. If they get to the water supply and the radio? Game over.

Everyone’s gonna be humming that alien tune and losing their minds, just with better skin and no anxiety.

But here’s what the movie is really about. The alien thing thinks it’s doing humans a favor by removing all the messy stuff like sadness, anger, and fear. But the truth is, that’s what makes us human.

Yeah, emotions can be hard, but they also make us unique. They help us create music, art, and stories and connect. Once you take all that away, sure, life is calmer, but it’s also super boring and creepy.

So, Call of the Void is saying: being human isn’t perfect, and that’s okay. Don’t drink mystery water from strangers. And what if a group of your friends suddenly start acting like emotionless songbirds? Maybe don’t join the band.
