In Another Simple Favor, Emily is revealed to be her secret triplet sister Charity, who was brainwashed to impersonate her and infiltrate the mafia. After the real Emily returns, Charity takes the fall, Emily goes free, and a final favor hints at a third film.
Suppose you’ve just finished watching Another Simple Favor on Prime Video. In that case, your brain is probably still trying to sort out the chaos, betrayal, and the dead husbands.
The sequel brings back the charmingly awkward Stephanie Smothers and the stylishly dangerous Emily Nelson, but the stakes are even higher this time, and the lies go much deeper. And if you thought one Emily was trouble, wait till you meet her long-lost sister.
Now, you might be wondering why on earth Stephanie would agree to get tangled up in Emily’s world again. After everything Emily pulled in the first film, you’d think Stephanie would run the other way at the sight of a martini glass.

But no. When Emily shows up uninvited at Stephanie’s book signing with threats of lawsuits and secrets, our favorite mommy blogger-turned-author finds herself booking a flight to Capri. Why? Being sued for stealing someone’s likeness in a memoir is a surefire way to kill a struggling book launch. And so, she ends up standing as maid of honor in a mafia wedding. Casual.
Naturally, nothing goes smoothly. Within minutes of landing, people start dying. First up is Shaun, Emily’s ex-husband, who’s mostly there to stir the pot and threaten custody of their son, Nicky.
He ends up mysteriously injected with a non-coagulant, which basically means he bleeds out dramatically. The police conveniently ignore it. Why? Because Dante, Emily’s fiancé, is mob royalty, and they don’t want to poke that hornet’s nest.
But then Dante himself is killed. Shot and tossed into a shed full of fireworks, which all go off in the most ridiculous cinematic explosion you could imagine. Guess who’s to blame? That’s right, Stephanie. And before she can say “I didn’t do it,” she’s slapped with a house arrest bracelet and locked down in Italy.
Now here’s where things get even wilder. That woman calling herself Emily isn’t actually Emily. If you remember the first movie, there was a reveal about Emily being one of three sisters, Hope, Faith, and the supposedly stillborn Charity. Turns out, Charity was very much alive.
She was kidnapped by their Aunt Linda and raised in isolation, which, as you can imagine, didn’t do wonders for her mental health. Linda brainwashed her into becoming a weapon, with the ultimate plan of taking control of the mafia through marriage and murder.

So while everyone thought Emily had just gotten weirder, it was actually Charity impersonating her. Linda planned to kill Dante, blame Stephanie, and let Charity slide into the role of mob queen.
Unfortunately for Linda, Stephanie is still nosy, still clever, and still very good at being in the wrong place at the right time. Also, the real Emily isn’t exactly one to stay tied up for long.
Things come to a head when Emily swoops in to rescue Stephanie and confronts Linda, Charity, and all the messy family secrets. There’s a lot of yelling, a bit of betrayal, and in the end, Charity turns on Linda and shoots her.
Emily convinces her to take responsibility for everything, including posing as Emily to serve the prison sentence. Charity agrees, and just like that, Emily gets a second chance at freedom.
Back in the US, Stephanie returns with Nicky, now essentially his guardian, and writes a sequel to her bestselling memoir. Her son finally sees that maybe Mom isn’t so boring after all, now that she’s got a criminal record, a kidnapped best friend, and a reputation for solving murders.

But wait, there’s more. The final moments of the film take us back to Capri, where Emily meets with her new mother-in-law, Portia. Despite losing her son in a firework-filled murder, Portia doesn’t seem too broken up.
Dante was gay and in love with the rival mob boss, so Emily was essentially his cover story. Portia appreciates the favor, but also wants something in return. She slips Emily a note and asks What else? A Simple Favor.
Emily smiles and asks, “How simple?” And then, the credits roll.
So, will there be a third film? Director Paul Feig certainly seems interested. He’s got ideas and says they plan to keep things international. With a setup like that, don’t be surprised if Stephanie and Emily’s next wild adventure takes them to another exotic location with more secrets, more murder, and probably more fabulous outfits.
Another Simple Favor is now streaming on Prime Video.
