Rex, known as Marshall P. Pope, once worked on a film directed by Ron Howard but was fired due to an error.
After losing his job, Sazz encouraged him to pursue writing, but Rex’s insecurity and pressure from his father made him desperate for success.
His father’s six-month deadline to prove himself as a writer intensified his drive to make it at any cost.

Why Did Rex Kill Sazz Patakhi?
Rex got his hands on Sazz’s script titled Only Murders, and it outshone everything he had ever written. Instead of supporting his friend, he saw it as a threat.
Rex deceitfully told Sazz her script needed work while secretly making a copy to pitch to a producer, Bev Melon, who decided to turn it into a film.
Sazz discovered his betrayal and confronted him, but Rex, fearing exposure, decided to eliminate her. He shot Sazz from the West Tower and used the Arconia’s ledge to return, erasing all evidence.

What Happened to Rex Bailey?
When Charles received a threatening message from Rex, warning him not to involve the police or Mabel would suffer, he took immediate action.
Charles, Oliver, and their friends devised a plan. Mabel cleverly stalled Rex by offering to help with script dialogues, allowing Charles and Oliver time to enter the room through the window and disarm him.
However, a shot came from Charles’ apartment just as they gained control.
The shooter was Jan, Charles’ former lover, who had been hiding in his apartment. Driven by revenge, Jan had been waiting for the right moment to strike.
Once she realized Rex was responsible for Sazz’s murder, she acted without hesitation, ending Rex’s life. The film production resumed, and Charles finally laid Sazz to rest by spreading her ashes at her favorite trampoline park.

What to Expect in Season 5?
After solving Sazz’s murder, the trio faced another twist in Only Murders in the Building Season 4 Finale.
Sofia Caccimelio approached them, seeking help to find her missing husband, Nicky. Although Charles declined, stating they only handle cases linked to Arconia, Sofia hinted that Nicky’s disappearance was connected to the building.
Just as things seemed settled, the trio discovered Lester, Arconia’s doorman, dead in the fountain where Oliver had just married Loretta.
The discovery of Lester’s body suggests a new murder mystery tied to Arconia and potentially linked to Sofia’s missing husband.
Season 5 is likely to follow Charles, Oliver, and Mabel as they reveal more secrets hidden within the walls of Arconia.
