Japan is about to get a massive tech upgrade, and it’s all happening in Osaka. Two big companies, ESR Group from Hong Kong and CloudHQ from America, have teamed up for this.
They’re investing $2 billion to create a huge data center. Yes, you heard it right. This is going to help Japan with all the digital things it needs every day.
The new data center will sit in Nanko Kita, a place just 10 kilometers from Osaka’s busy city area. It’s a smart spot, close enough to town but with plenty of room to build something big.
They won’t do it all at once, though. They’re starting with a part called OS1, which will be ready by June 2025. That first bit can handle 25 megawatts of data.
Once everything’s done, the whole place will manage 130 megawatts. This is enough power to keep computers and systems running without any trouble!
You guys may think why does Japan need this? Well, many of the businesses like banks, car companies, and hospitals, use digital stuff all the time.
People are saving photos, videos, and files online. They’re using apps for work and fun, too. Due to this, Japan needs a strong place to store and manage data. This Osaka center will step up and make sure everything works fine for them.
But it’s not only meant for fixing today’s needs. Japan is looking ahead. They’re working on many cool technologies like smart machines that think a bit like people, super-fast internet 5G, and devices that talk to each other online.
These new ideas need a solid data setup to work well. The Osaka data center will be that support, helping Japan stay a leader in the tech world.
For ESR Group, this is a fresh start. They’re good at making big storage spaces, like warehouses, but data centers are new for them in Japan.

That’s why they’ve joined hands with CloudHQ, a company that’s really good at this tech stuff. Stuart Gibson, one of ESR’s top people, said, “We’re happy to team up with CloudHQ. This is going to be a big deal for Japan and all of Asia.”
CloudHQ’s boss, Hossein Fateh, added, “Japan is a key place for us. Together, we’ll build something amazing here.”
This project isn’t just about machines and wires, it’s about people too. Building this data center will bring lots of jobs to Osaka. Workers will be needed to put it together and run it later.
Local shops and businesses will see more customers. Even big tech companies from other countries might notice Osaka and bring their money here. It’s a great chance for the city and Japan to grow stronger.
As you all know that building something this huge isn’t that easy. There are rules they have to follow, and it takes a lot of planning. They need to work with many people to get it right.
But ESR knows how to build big things, and CloudHQ understands the tech side. Together, they’re ready to take on the challenge.
This $2 billion plan is a giant step for Japan’s future. Work has already started, and everyone’s curious to see how it goes.
By June 2025, when OS1 opens, Osaka could become a shining star in Japan’s tech story.
