Apple’s next big launch, the iPhone 17 series, is expected to deliver a huge update by including LTPO (Low-Temperature Polycrystalline Oxide) screens with 120Hz refresh rates across all models, according to South Korea’s ETNews.
Until now, Apple only featured LTPO screens, which support high refresh rates with low power use, in its Pro models, like the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max.
But this anticipated upgrade could bring smoother screen performance even to the base models in the iPhone 17 series, meaning that all iPhone 17 users could enjoy 120Hz refresh rates.
iPhone 17 LTPO Displays for Smoother Visuals
With LTPO technology, Apple’s displays can shift refresh rates, improving efficiency by reducing battery drain. LTPO panels allow iPhones to automatically adjust between lower refresh rates to save power and higher ones (up to 120Hz) when needed.
This innovation means even standard models in the iPhone 17 lineup, including the rumored iPhone 17 Air, may feature these advanced displays, setting a new trend in iPhone displays.
More Power with New Chipsets and Cooling
Besides LTPO displays, the iPhone 17 series might feature a new, highly efficient 2nm chipset from Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC).
This new processor is expected to boost performance while using less power, and Apple is likely to add up to 12GB of RAM and an upgraded vapor chamber cooling system, enhancing both speed and thermal management.
