29-year-old Trinidad González has become a rising star thanks to her role in Netflix’s The Secret of the River.

González, born in Tabasco, Mexico, stepped into the limelight as Sicarú in the popular series, marking her first major acting role.

Before landing this role, González built her name in the modeling industry, and her journey is as inspiring as it is bold.

Trinidad González: A Model-Turned-Actress

González initially pursued a career in modeling, a dream that came true when she moved to Mexico in 2019 and later signed with Supa Modeling Agency.

Standing at 6’1″, she quickly gained attention from industry insiders and expanded her modeling career to London. However, her passions extended beyond modeling.

González, who is transgender, saw modeling as a way to express her true self. In an interview, she shared how she always admired the fashion world and found inspiration from watching the women in her family dress up.

A Lifelong Love for Fashion

From a young age, González was fascinated by fashion. She spoke about watching her female relatives get ready, doing their nails and hair, which inspired her passion for clothing and self-expression.

She often spent time flipping through magazines in her aunt’s office, feeling a connection to the models she saw. This connection only deepened as she grew older and decided to pursue fashion on her terms.

The Secret of the River: Her Big Acting Break

While González found success in modeling, her big break came in 2022 when she was offered the role of Sicarú in The Secret of the River.

Initially nervous about acting, she was drawn to the story and felt connected to her character. The show, set in Oaxaca, Mexico, focuses on two children whose lives change after witnessing a tragedy.

For González, acting was a new challenge, but one she faced head-on, driven by the thrill of trying something outside her comfort zone. “Fear drives me,” she said, explaining how that fear fuels her strength to push forward.

Connecting with Sicarú’s Story

González’s role in The Secret of the River as Sicarú resonated deeply with her, as it mirrored aspects of her own life.

Playing a transgender character, González wanted other trans people, particularly younger viewers, to feel seen and heard.

She connected with her character’s bravery, especially in how Sicarú embraces her identity as a woman.

“I hope many people, especially trans girls, connect with Manuel and have the opportunity to transition at the age they feel is right,” she shared.

Her portrayal aims to give trans people more visibility and courage to live authentically.

Following her debut in The Secret of the River, González is determined to continue acting.
